A study investigated genetic, maternal, and environmental effects on ASD across samples in 5 countries from when children were born until age 16. The study found that across countries, heritability of ASD is about 80%, with countries varying in specific estimates. Overall, this study found that ASD has strong genetic influences, some environmental influences, and no maternal effect.
